Health Care Reform – Update

I receive many questions concerning the PPACA (Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act) that was signed into law in 2010, and whether it includes provisions for Christian Science care benefits. To date, there is not an exemption (such as Massachusetts has) or an accommodation that meets the needs of Christian Scientists in the PPACA. The Christian Science Committee on Publication Timeline shows the steps that have been taken toward accommodation and/or exemption.
The Federal Office recently held an online townhall forum where they briefed a wide audience of Christian Scientists on their latest legislative efforts and fielded questions about health care submitted by church members from across the country.
