BA Announces Landmark Contract with Tufts Health Plan
We’re pleased to be able to share with you the culmination of three years of work and negotiations. Chestnut Hill Benevolent Association has just signed a contract with the health maintenance organization Tufts Health Plan, a nationally-rated HMO, to become a provider for Tufts. This means the BA is recognized by Tufts for patient claims for skilled Christian Science nursing care by those staying at the BA. Individuals working in Massachusetts or Rhode Island can now ask their employers, who provide Tufts Health Plan, for a “Christian Science rider.”
This first-of-its-kind contract will benefit the Christian Science Field, by among other things, establishing a precedent for HMOs to recognize Christian Science treatment as legitimate and effective. The BA’s Executive Director, Janiva Toler, states, “The recognition of spiritual care by Tufts Health Plan is a landmark event.”
In its recent newsletter, the Committee on Publication for Massachusetts stated, “…the importance of this breakthrough cannot be understood enough.” The Mother Church has the Christian Science rider for its existing employee Tufts Health Plan offerings.
