It can seem like new challenges are presented to us on a daily, even hourly, basis. But we have the Comforter, Christian Science, which is already meeting every need. So we don’t need to look outside of this Science, but rather more deeply into Science, including Mary Baker Eddy’s By-Laws in the Manual of The Mother Church.
Mrs. Eddy says that the By-Laws “…will do for the race what absolute doctrines destined for future generations might not accomplish” (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 148). These By-Laws are not just for our church and its members, but for our world. See your role in embracing the By-Law “Christian Science Nurse” in responding to your neighbor’s need.
Its requirements encompass a genuine practice of Christian Science—demonstrable knowledge: knowing what’s true of God and therefore of man; practical wisdom: yielding human opinion, diagnosis, even mere human goodness to the unerring Mind’s guidance; and proper care that results from an understanding of demonstrable knowledge and practical wisdom and is the active reflection of Love’s healing presence caring for His own idea.
Bringing each of these elements into your life in responding to your own and others’ needs is nursing—ministering to a situation with metaphysical clarity, practicality, wisdom, grace, and love. The activity of this By-Law is bearing witness to Christian Science healing throughout the world.
