Amenities

The Benevolent Association offers a variety of resources and amenities to students of Christian Science seeking spiritual refreshment and renewal. Comfortable guest rooms, well-appointed common rooms with fireplaces and light-filled bay windows, an extensive collection of original art, antique furnishings, and book collections all provide gracious surroundings for guests’ quiet study and prayer.

The BA’s extensive book collection relating to Christian Science topics includes the Bible and Mrs. Eddy’s writings, a complete collection of the bound volumes of the Christian Science periodicals, biographies of Mary Baker Eddy, historical books, Bible concordances and commentaries, books marked for the Weekly Bible Lesson, current copies of the Christian Science periodicals and The Christian Science Monitor. There are also CDs, and video recordings including audio recordings of the Weekly Bible Lesson and of The Mother Church services. A computer for guests’ use includes the Concord and Found Volumes software programs.

Guests may enjoy the BA’s collection of music CDs and video recordings on general topics and they are welcome to participate in a wide array of Residential Program activities including hymn sings, movies, community-service projects, musical performances, writing workshops, discussion groups, afternoon teas on selected Fridays, and Boston-area day trips which occasionally require a reservation. Current events calendars are posted in elevators. Although guest rooms do not have TVs, TVs with VCRs and DVDs are available for guests’ use when not in use for a scheduled Residential activity.

Transportation is included to services at The Mother Church. In addition, informal church services for the BA community are held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday evenings and 7:00 p.m. on Sunday evenings. All are welcome. Several branch churches and Christian Science Reading Rooms are also nearby.
