What does it mean to be a Christian Science nurse?
At this time in our movement there is a great need for Christian Science nurses. Did you know that Christian Science nurses have a joyful role in witnessing harmony and healing in a wide variety of settings: Christian Science nursing facilities; in Outpatient Rooms; in homes through visiting Christian Science nursing services, mother and infant care services, and at schools or in a camp community.
Are there signs in your life and your character that show a preparation for Christian Science nursing? How might you know if you are ready for Christian Science nursing? First we can look to the Church Manual, Article VIII, Sect. 31, “Christian Science Nurse.” Also, consider the qualities Mary Baker Eddy gives in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures:
“The nurse should be cheerful, orderly, punctual, patient, full of faith, — receptive to Truth and Love.” (SH page 395)
Other signs of readiness may include:
• An active practice of Christian Science in one’s life
• Love for God and your fellow man
• Selfless giving and caring
• Integrity
• Purity of thought
If you have thought about Christian Science nursing, please follow up on that thought. Read more about Christian Science nursing, look into training, or talk to a Christian Science nurse. If you know someone that expresses all the signs of readiness for Christian Science nursing, perhaps you can support their going forward in this way.
