Sustainability Policy

Chestnut Hill Benevolent Association Sustainability Statement

Chestnut Hill Benevolent Association is committed to environmental stewardship and sustainability in conducting our business. We have taken steps to reduce waste, energy consumption and water usage and have greened our supply chain by focusing on three key areas: recycling, energy and water reduction, and use of environmentally-friendly products.

Focus Areas

Recycling

Current Practices:

  • Paper and cardboard recycling program and voluntary recycling program for metals and plastics.
  • Printer cartridge, battery, appliance, and building materials recycling program.
  • Recycled paper for our mailings, and email to communicate with individuals, whenever possible.

Energy and Water Reduction

Current Practices:

  • Energy-efficient fluorescent bulbs in many lamps and all ceiling fixtures.
  • Linen and towel conservation program.*
  • Energy-efficient appliances, air conditioners, and other mechanical equipment when replacement needed.
  • Local and seasonal produce, whenever possible.*
  • Office equipment powered down after hours.
  • Lighting levels reduced where appropriate.

Environmentally-Friendly Products

Current Practices:

  • Green cleaning products sustainably manufactured with environmentally-friendly ingredients.*
  • Microfiber cleaning cloths.*
  • Biodegradable food “to-go” containers.*
  • Low VOC carpeting and water-based polyurethane specified, where possible.
  • Environmentally-friendly ice and snow melt.

Implementation

All members of the BA community play an active role in implementing these policies, and all are encouraged to suggest changes or improvements. The Executive Director oversees our entire program, sets goals, and regularly monitors progress. She is available to discuss any part of this statement, and welcomes your suggestions.
