Job Summary:
Assists the Director of Christian Science Nursing through an active ministry of Christian Science nursing to ensure consistency of care that is in keeping with the standard of the Church Manual By-law “Christian Science Nurse” and that the By-law is represented correctly in the BA’s Christian Science nursing services.
Reports to Director of Christian Science Nursing. Communicates on a daily basis with the Director of Christian Science Nursing (DCSN) regarding staffing and patient care. Coordinates with the Christian Science Nurses Training Department. Coordinates with other departments to help ensure a standard of excellence in patient care and in the patient’s surroundings.
Details of Duties:
Represents the Manual By-law “Christian Science Nurse” correctly.
Metaphysically supports the work and purpose of the facility.
Assists the DCSN to oversee staff and patient care and to ensure that patient care is consistent with and facilitates support for the Christian Science nurses in meeting the Manual By-law requirements for the Christian Science nurse; is consistent with and upholds the standard of the Christian Science Nursing Arts (CSNA) training.
Has an active ministry of Christian Science nursing on the Christian Science Nursing Floor and in the outpatient Care Room.
Keeps current with the needs of the Christian Science Nursing Floor and the staff, through working side-by-side with the Christian Science nurses and through regular supervising on the Christian Science Nursing Floor.
Communicates with the DCSN, supervisors, and Christian Science nursing staff regularly regarding patient care to ensure a standard of excellence in patient care and to ensure consistency in care.
Has a lead role in establishing patient care on the Christian Science Nursing Floor.
Responds to admission calls on a rotating basis with sound judgment, compassion, metaphysical clarity, meticulous ethics, resourcefulness, and practicality.
Keeps current with the Christian Science Nursing Arts Training and helps to ensure an oversight structure and practice in the BA’s Christian Science nursing services consistent and supportive of the standard, instruction, and mentoring in the CSNA. Assists with teaching sessions in the CSNA classes.
Is responsible for orientation of new Christian Science nursing staff, including Christian Science nurses working on a temporary basis.
Is available to be the Acting DCSN when the director is away. Is available and keeps in touch with the Christian Science Nursing Floor to ensure proper care and to respond to changing needs.
Works with the DCSN in preparing weekly schedules that provide balanced coverage of the Christian Science nursing care floors on a 24-hour basis, regarding the need for Christian Science nursing care, and equitable consideration regarding individual staff needs, to ensure fairness and consistency. Coordinates with the Training department regarding scheduling to ensure training needs are met.
Maintains the schedules once they are posted to keep pace with changing needs regarding Christian Science nursing care, and staffing changes on a rotating basis.
When needed, and under the direction of the DCSN, reads the patient care records to ensure compliance with standards governing the facility, accuracy, completeness of care and consistency of care with the patient care plans.
Assists the DCSN to keep patient care plans up to date.
Stays familiar with and upholds the facility’s policies, guidelines, safety practices, and standards; stays familiar and current with the Christian Science nursing services provided by the facility; with all the equipment and supplies at the facility and their use; and with the current needs of the Christian Science Nursing Floor.
Is familiar and in compliance with governmental regulations, accreditation requirements, and is law-abiding.
Supports the work of the administration and Christian Science nursing staff; works as a team with the DCSN and Director of Christian Science Nurses Training in determining needs and coordinating the training/mentoring in the BA’s Christian Science nursing services to result in a standard of excellence in patient care, especially during the absence of the DCSN.
Carries out other tasks as requested by the DCSN as appropriate.
Minimum Qualifications:
Class-taught Christian Scientist by an authorized teacher of Christian Science, and an active member of The Mother Church and an active branch church or a local member of The Mother Church.
Currently listed as a Christian Science nurse in The Christian Science Journal and have an active, reputable, sound, and substantial practice of Christian Science nursing.
Has successfully completed a Christian Science nurses training program.
Has had supervisory/management experience and expertise.
Willing to work flexible days and hours.
