Work with a dedicated team of Christian Science nurses in supporting others in bringing out the art of Christian Science nursing.

We are looking for a Christian Science nurse who is:

  • Devoted to the Cause of Christian Science and Christian Science healing

  • Meets the requirements of the Church Manual By-law “Christian Science Nurse,” and is listed in The Christian Science Journal

NEW! Capital Campaign Manager

Join us as a key member of the development team with the principal responsibility to direct and implement the BA’s capital campaign. 

Organizational Relationships: Reports to the CEO

Summary: The Capital Campaign Manager’s principal responsibility is to direct and implement the BA’s capital campaign.  The Capital Campaign Manager will work closely with the CEO, the Director of Development, and the members of the Capital Campaign Committee to plan, strategize and execute key activities associated with the on-going capital fundraising efforts as approved by the Board of Trustees. 

  • Participate in an integrated planning process that will incorporate understanding all streams of the BA’s fund raising (annual, capital, special projects, and planned giving). 

  • Develop an overall strategic plan for a campaign model that supports the overall mission of the BA involving volunteer leadership. This involves working closely with the CEO, the Director of Development, and, as appropriate, with Campaign Counsel. 

  • Developing and regularly reviewing the campaign plan and ensuring that its key activities are executed.  

  • Manage the work of the Capital Campaign Committee related to the capital campaign ensuring that committee members are actively engaged, provided prospect assignments, and kept motivated to identify, cultivate, and solicit major gift prospects. 

  • Engage actively in making personal visits for the purposes of cultivating and soliciting major donors. 

  • Ensure the timely and proper stewardship of gifts through recording of gifts/pledges received, acknowledging campaign commitments made, and engaging in a moves management process to grow donor engagement with the BA. 

  • Uphold and abide by Chestnut Hill Benevolent Association’s Gift Policies  

  • Develop and provide regular reports to the Capital Campaign Committee on campaign progress. 

  • Support volunteers in their work in support of the campaign. 

  • Organize and ensure the effectiveness of regular meetings of the campaign leadership volunteers.  

  • Oversee the campaign including creating long-term, strategic campaign and marketing plans.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be a class taught member of The Mother Church by an authorized teacher of Christian Science, and an active member of a branch church or a local member of The Mother Church. Has an understanding of and metaphysically supports the purpose and mission of the Benevolent Association. Bachelor’s degree with substantial progressive fundraising experience.  Demonstrated ability to speak and write effectively with grace and diplomacy, and to listen effectively – to clearly understand the speaker’s intent and respond appropriately.  Strong organizational and financial management skills.  Demonstrated ability to plan and work within a campaign budget.  Proficiency in MS Office and experience with various computer applications including fundraising software.

This is a full-time on-site position.

NEW! Assistant Manager, Residential & Guest Services

This position assists the Manager in overseeing all housing, rooms, and apartments in the Original Building and Carriage House.

Your work will encompass activities that relate to The Residences at 910, Rest & Study guests, and Associate Housing. You’ll also act in the place of the Residential and Guest Services Manager, when he/she is not on duty.

JOB OVERVIEW AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This position reports to and works collaboratively with the Residential & Guest Services Manager. Has regular contact with residents, guests and associates, activities coordinator, van driver, leasing agent, facilities, reception, volunteer coordinator, kitchen staff, and housekeeping staff.

  • Ensures rooms are ready for guests, residents, and staff associates before they arrive, keeping in touch with Housekeeping and the Front Desk as necessary. Follows up on departures.

  • May be asked to assist with coordinating the move-ins/outs or room/apartment changes of guests, residents, or associates.

  • Assists department manager with inspecting and documenting repairs and cleanliness of rooms/apartments to ensure optimum upkeep and repair, room cleanliness and overall building appearance of the Original Building and Carriage House. Keeps manager advised of items needing attention.

  • May be asked to support the duties of renting/leasing of rooms/apartments for long and short-term occupancy and be appraised of and able to accurately communicate BA policies for residents, associates, and guests.

  • Is back-up to part-time Activities Coordinator. This may include for example, planning and executing anniversary parties, events, gatherings, driving a van (active driver’s license and good driving record required).

  • Is thoughtful and supportive about enabling the residents at 910 to be and remain independent, and discusses various options or recommended steps with department manager.

  • Responds to various requests. This could be giving a tour of the BA to an inquiring visitor, running an errand, helping a resident move their TV, set up their computer, showing a new associate how to use a washing machine, etc., and other duties that arise.

  • Prepares handouts and communications for residents, guests, and associates as needed.

  • May be asked to attend meetings for residents, and associates to keep apprised information shared with them.

  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRED

Must be a member of The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, and a practicing Christian Scientist.  Class Instruction by an authorized teacher of Christian Science is required.  Metaphysically supports the BA’s services and programs on a daily basis.

Prior work with guests and seniors in a residential setting or Customer Service arena is preferred.  Must be patient, flexible, have a gracious manner, be adept with “people skills,” and able to maintain a high ethical standard of confidentiality.  Problem solving, a good customer service demeanor, ability to multi-task, and a willingness to do anything that might be necessary, is required. Must have flexibility with scheduling with a 24/7 operation and willingness to work weekends as needed. 

Computer skills to include solid grounding in Word docs and Excel.  Must have the ability and willingness to embrace new software, ie. Room Master, WorxHub, and assist with the electronic organizing of documents and files.

Physical requirements include:  Above-average agility and dexterity; and long periods of walking, standing, bending, or carrying moderately heavy items as well as ability to navigate stairs.

Part-time for occasional needs.

Hours are 10 p.m. to 8 a.m.  Fill-in for staff vacations and time away.

We’d like to add one or two individuals who are members of The Mother Church to our on-call Reception/Security staff:

  • Expresses qualities that represent and support Christian Science nursing and healing in all contacts with individuals seeking BA services and with Rest & Study guests and Residents

  • Answers phone console transferring calls, paging staff as needed, etc.

  • May handle some modest cash transactions

  • Utilizes computer for security report

  • Patrols buildings and grounds to maintain safety/security of facility

  • Maintains alertness to detect items needing attention/response

  • Able to be calm in emergency situations

Working at the BA

The BA was founded in 1916 in response to Mary Baker Eddy’s call for skilled Christian Science nursing to support those relying on Christian Science for healing. It is located on 24.2 acres of gardens and woodlands within minutes of downtown Boston.

Employees enjoy housing in surrounding communities, on the campus itself in the Carriage House apartments (for Journal-listed Christian Science nurses), or in rooms in the historic Original Building. On-site staff housing is subject to availability. Restaurants, shopping, and theaters are within walking distance.

The Boston area is home to a community of Christian Scientists, many of whom work in the Christian Science movement. The Mother Church is just minutes away, and there are a number of branch churches in the surrounding area. Longyear Museum is located just across the street from the BA.
