An internship of blessings

Owen Sipe joined the Christian Science Nursing Youth Service Corps (CSNYSC) program last October. And over the past nine months he has worked in nearly every department at the BA! His contributions have been a blessing as he has learned more about what it takes to provide this refuge and the needed ministry of Christian Science nursing, as well as the refuge and activities that support a residential community for Christian Scientists.  He has been especially helpful in support of these two areas.

“I wanted to participate in the CSNYSC because I was curious about how I could help the movement,” says Owen. “And I feel like I have gotten so much out of it. I have learned so much about Christian Science nursing and I’ve also had this wonderful time to work on my metaphysics, and practice Christian Science, and grow so much since I’ve been here.”

In the Christian Science Nursing Building, Owen has made hundreds of beds, prepared meal trays, marked Bible Lesson books, read to the group, cleaned kitchens and cheerfully done any special project assigned.  In the Original Building, Owen has tackled gardening projects, helped lead line dancing and both indoor and outdoor games, helped host/setup/cleanup several resident events, done weekly checks of unoccupied rooms and provided tech support for many residents.  He has escorted residents on outings to Christian Science lectures, concerts, museums, historic houses, art museums and walks in nearby parks.  He has even served at Reception, worked the night shift in Security and assisted Facilities and Marketing with several projects!

“Owen’s willingness, initiative, alertness to detail and joyful ‘can do’ spirit is an inspiration,” says Lesleah De Frisco, Manager of Residential & Guest Services at the BA. “His love of Christian Science and care for his fellow man are very evident. We are so grateful for the excellent work he has done these past nine months in support of the healing mission of the BA!”

This summer, Owen will return to the Adventure Unlimited Ranches in Colorado where he will be a camp counselor for the National Leadership Council (NLC) program.

Owen’s internship at the BA was supported in part by the Christian Science Nursing Youth Service Corps through the Principle Foundation Extended Services.
