In a letter to Mary Beecher Longyear dated January 15, 1905, Mary Baker Eddy wrote: “‘Our cause demands a wider circle of means for the ends of philanthropy and charity, and better qualifications for practical purposes. This latter lack in students of Christian Science is a great hindrance to our cause and it must be met and mastered. The students need to be qualified so that under the fire of mortal mind they can stand, and “having done all, to stand” (St. Paul)’” (“The Christian Science Benevolent Association,” Christian Science Sentinel, October 7, 1916).
For more than four decades, Kathy Glover has stood with unwavering fidelity to her calling to represent herself as a Christian Science nurse, and for the last twenty-two years, stalwart in the post as Director of Christian Science Nursing here at the BA. Her abiding dedication to supporting healing and devotion to being in full accord with the high standard of Christian Science nursing has immeasurably blessed those entrusted to her care.
Her keen assessment skills and love for others extend beyond patient care to tenderly meeting the needs of all. Every staff member feels her outstretched hands whether working side by side and supporting them in their ministry, celebrating their accomplishments, or uplifting, steadying, and encouraging them.
We will miss her Texas accent and her “y’all”; we will miss her laughter that peals from her office and bursts into the hallways. We will miss her tender smile and gentle touch and… her brownies! Perhaps one of the things that we will miss the most is her beautiful voice that kindles comfort and inspires hope. Gratefully, the soft refrain of her music will continue to resound in our hearts through her beautiful recordings.
Kathy has been a light in the field of Christian Science nursing, letting her example shine with the reflected light of God to those needing it most as they demonstrate freedom, spiritual dominion, and healing. She has also illumined the path for others as they fulfill their calling in this holy work of Christian Science nursing so they too, can stand.
We trust that as Kathy retires, she will hear the praise so well deserved: “Well done, thou good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:21).
Kathy Glover is retiring from the post of Director of Christian Science Nursing at the BA this month, and Caitlin Sheasley is stepping into this important role. We are deeply grateful to both Kathy and Caitlin for their wonderful depth and breadth of experience in Christian Science nursing.
